Ember Wars is a fantasy battle game featuring strategic combat and team-based objectives. Players choose from a variety of warrior classes with distinct abilities and weapons, engaging in large-scale battles across destructible environments where terrain and tactics play a critical role. I was responsible for developing and balancing the combat mechanics to ensure that each class felt distinct while contributing to the overall strategy. A key focus was building a dynamic AI system that could adapt to real-time battle conditions and effectively work with teammates, enhancing both challenge and immersion. In addition to combat and AI development, I worked on performance optimization, particularly for large-scale battles. By refining AI behavior trees and managing complex interactions, I improved the game's fluidity and responsiveness. My experience with Ember Wars advanced my expertise in AI development, game optimization, and Unreal Engine 5's capabilities, preparing me for larger and more ambitious projects in the future.

Featuring dynamic target spawning, multiple target types, and adaptive difficulty levels, the game pushes players to refine their reflexes and shot placement through strategic gameplay. I focused on implementing responsive shooting mechanics, ensuring minimal input lag and precise hit detection for a seamless experience. One of the key challenges was balancing difficulty progression—I developed a system that dynamically adjusts target speed, size, and spawn frequency based on player performance. This ensures an experience that is both engaging and rewarding for players of all skill levels. Through iterative playtesting, I refined the spawn logic and scoring system to encourage skill improvement while maintaining a sense of challenge. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, this project strengthened my expertise in gameplay programming, difficulty scaling, and user experience design.

Players use a dash mechanic, healing during combat, and a unique portal system to teleport between locations. This adds a strategic layer, allowing for surprise attacks, escapes, and tactical advantages in battle. I focused on making the combat system fluid and responsive, ensuring sword swings, spell casts, and portal usage felt seamless and impactful. The melee system includes combos, hit reactions, and stagger effects, while the magic system offers a variety of spells with cooldowns and resource costs for balance. Enemies adapt to player actions, dodging, blocking, and countering to keep encounters engaging. The portal mechanic allows players to place portals for strategic advantages. The AI dynamically reacts to portal usage, creating tense and unpredictable combat. A key challenge was optimizing network performance to ensure smooth transitions and minimal lag during portal usage. Through playtesting and iteration, I refined the balance between combat mechanics and AI behavior to provide a polished, enjoyable experience. Built in Unreal Engine 5, this project pushed my skills in real-time action gameplay and AI design.

I developed custom AI for intelligent enemies that react to player actions, making encounters unique and unpredictable. For magical combat sequences, I created a dynamic combat system combining intricate spell-casting with responsive animations and effects. A key focus was AI behavior that reacts intelligently to player actions, making combat more strategic and immersive. The biggest challenge was fine-tuning visual effects and AI timing to ensure smooth gameplay while optimizing performance. For the Smart Enemy AI Combat Sensing System, I designed AI that reacts dynamically to player inputs like sound and movement. The goal was to make AI intelligent yet unpredictable, maintaining balance while adding depth to combat. Incorporating playtesting feedback was crucial in refining the AI’s reactivity and ensuring fair yet challenging combat. This improved both the AI and animations, making combat encounters more enjoyable and unpredictable. These developments have deepened my expertise in AI systems and combat mechanics within Unreal Engine 5.
